On the morning of January 27, 2021, academician Zhao Yupei, honorary president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, successfully completed the robotic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy (Kimura method), which is the 1000th robotic operation in Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the 325th robotic operation in pancreatic surgery completed by academician Zhao Yupei's team.
The patient was only 35 years old. Retroperitoneal mass was found during physical examination, which was closely related to pancreas, adrenal gland and stomach. Ms. Yu's mother and aunt had been patients with pancreatic cancer. When the whole family learned about this situation, they were deeply worried. "In 2014, my mother underwent surgery in Xiehe and was pathologically diagnosed as stage II pancreatic cancer. The doctor told us that the average survival time is one and a half years, but my mother has been with us for more than three years after the operation. Thanks to the long-term careful treatment and management of the multi-disciplinary team of Xiehe, we always remember our gratitude to Xiehe. " Ms. Yu said: "I am very lucky to be hospitalized this time. Academician Zhao Yupei personally operated on me and visited me in the ward four times before and after the operation. He is so amiable and approachable. My heart is full of trust, steadiness and warmth! Fortunately, I kept my spleen, and the pathological diagnosis was also benign. The recovery period was getting better and better day by day. Compared with the situation when my mother was wrapped in gauze after surgery, I personally realized the benefits of technological progress to patients. "
Robotic surgery opens a new chapter in minimally invasive technology, which is of epoch-making significance. During the operation, the chief surgeon sits in front of the console, facing the high-definition 3D image magnified 10 times, and controls the robot manipulator with 7 degrees of freedom through the manual controller to perform the operation. The robot manipulator can filter the vibration of human hand during operation, and its range of motion is much larger than that of human hand. Many angles that cannot be reached by traditional laparoscopic surgery and depths that are difficult to sew can be completed more easily. With the help of robots, for doctors, it means extended "arms", more dexterous "hands" and more accurate and minimally invasive operation. For patients, it means shorter operation time, less trauma and higher efficacy.
Pancreatic surgery in Peking Union Medical College Hospital has a long history and remarkable achievements. Professor Zeng xianjiu, an important founder of modern Chinese surgery, completed the first pancreatoduodenectomy in China in 1951. Academician Zhao Yupei's team's basic research and clinical application project of comprehensive diagnosis and treatment scheme for pancreatic cancer and the establishment and clinical application project of insulinoma diagnosis and treatment system have successively won the second prize of national science and Technology Progress Award in 2008 and 2016.
In 1951, Zeng xianjiu completed the first Whipple operation in China.
Peking Union Medical College Hospital is one of the earliest hospitals in China to carry out robotic surgery. Since academician Zhao Yupei completed the first case of pancreatic robotic surgery in Xiehe in August 2012, robotic Whipple, robotic pancreatectomy and other difficult operations have become common operations in Xiehe. As the largest insulinoma diagnosis and treatment center in the world, Xiehe has completed more than 150 robotic insulinomas resection, which is the world's leading level.
Under the promotion of academician Zhao Yupei, the multidisciplinary team of Peking Union Medical College Hospital actively explored the clinical application of robotic surgery technology. Professor Dai Menghua, director of urology department Ji Zhigang and basic surgery department, had more than 100 cases of operation. Robot assisted surgery has been widely used, such as sleeve gastrectomy, radical total gastrectomy, radical colorectal cancer resection, partial nephrectomy, total nephrectomy, radical prostatectomy, etc. The professional team of anesthesia and nursing in robotic surgery is also growing and has accumulated rich clinical experience.
